Art & Design Lead and Year 3 Class Teacher, The Belham Primary School (Southwark)

About me

Formally a Mental Health Nurse in inner London, I went on to form my own company working with schools on creative projects; from puppets and textiles, to designing and project managing an award-winning Library Bus and a national Jubilee outdoor library. Following this, I was invited to take part in Guardian round table debates on innovative learning spaces and technology in our schools. Whilst training as a teacher, I completed placements with both the V&A and BFI - taking the arts to hospital schools, cinemas and hosting museum workshops.

With my experience in leading and developing the arts curriculum, I was asked to join The Belham. It was then a relatively new school and I have worked to successfully implement a curriculum focusing on process, and have formed relationships and partnerships with our local arts community. This has resulted in CPD opportunities, joining networks, working collaboratively with cultural and arts organisations, and engaging and utilising the skills of our parents. Each year, we open our doors to showcase our work in an exhibition linked to a community Arts Trail.

I have recently become an SLE in Art. With a passion for the arts, community and inclusion, I am now extending my links to other schools and finding ways to reach out to our locality.
