This essay describes cross-curricular approaches in 3 primary schools and 1 secondary school in East London in 2007. The schools defined learning objectives in subjects including maths, history and geography and worked in partnership with artists and arts organisations to deliver a creative project.
The creative activities allowed the schools to employ a theme or topic to bring together the learning.
Teachers were further equipped to recognise the links and the possibilities between the arts and the rest of the curriculum, and the range of learning styles the arts can support in young people.
