This paper presents an example of two primary schools in East London that partnered on a creative project aiming to increase parental engagement and community involvement in the pupils' work.
The project married visual arts and storytelling with themes of cultural identity in an attempt to place parents as active participants in their children's learning. The project offered opportunities for the children to increase their language, creativity, motor skills and physical development in addition to literacy and numeracy.
The positive impacts of the experience for the parents and the partnering artists are detailed in the conclusion.
