By Richard Ings, 2008.
This essay focuses on a North London school that explored the theme and the process of developing youth voice and empowerment through aerial theatre.
The group of students worked together, supported by the practitioners to develop a performance that articulated their views about an aspect of school life.
The young people also fed their views into the process of rehearsals and teaching methods which created a situation of a live evaluation, enabling the practitioners to adapt the project to allow greater engagement and ownership of the project and trust between the students, teachers and practitioners.
