Description of session
Come and join us in the Crafts Council Gallery for a fun and relaxed evening with award-winning sustainable textile artist Alice Burnhope in this playful and sensory workshop that blends ancient and contemporary craft practices to inspire ways of making in the classroom.
With sustainability at its core, participants will explore accessible, hands-on textile techniques that connect creativity with nature. The session supports creative confidence and wellbeing while offering simple, practical ideas to take back into the school setting. No experience needed—just curiosity and joy in learning through touch, colour, and collaboration!
Detail of activity
Together, we’ll explore the contemporary natural dyeing process of bundle dye, painting with handmade natural dye inks, and transforming dyed fabrics into vibrant, tactile rope. This ancient method of rope-making is accessible and engaging-perfect for collaborative classroom projects. Participants will leave with their own painted samples, dyed fabric, handmade decoration, and ink pots to take back to their schools.
You’ll also gain fresh ideas for reusing textiles, working with natural materials, and embedding sustainability into creative learning.
