Art as Expression: Emerging Black Artists’ Exhibition Launch

Join Creative Mentor Network for the launch of an exhibition in honour of Black History Month, as they showcase the Black artistic talent within their network.

From photography and sculpture to short film, painting and illustration, the diverse range of works throughout this exhibition, celebrates the vast array of passions and interests of creatives emerging onto the London art scene in 2022.

Young, Gifted & Black 2022 at Theatre Peckham

Returning for the third year, the festival features theatre, poetry and discussion, focusing on the nuances of the Black experience in the UK and highlighting stories around migration and belonging.

Black History Month: TPF Talks x Design District

Join a very special panel in celebration of Black History Month for October's edition of TPF Talks. The panel will host Black creatives, activists & educators who will share their career journeys, their experiences of navigating the industry, and their stories & tips – whilst opening up a space for a wider conversation centred around wellbeing and resilience.

Grada Kilomba; O Barco / The Boat Installation

Displayed at the Somerset House courtyard, the striking 32-metre-long installation is composed of 140 wood blocks, the configuration of which outlines the lower ‘hold’ of an historical European slave ship.⁠

The work directly addresses the history of European maritime expansion and colonisation and invites the audience to consider forgotten stories and identities.⁠

The installation will be activated by two FREE live performances: ⁠
Thu 13 Oct, 5-6pm ⁠
Fri 14 Oct, 1-2pm⁠

Time to celebrate Black Designers

Caramel Rock is holding an exciting fashion festival consisting of a fashion show, exhibitions, workshops, and live Q&A’s. Open for all to come along for Newham Black History Month.

The event will celebrate black designers and creatives in the space including representation on identities in film, media, black hair beauty and fashion.

New Speakers’ Corner, Poetry at Canary Wharf

Head down to Crossrail Place Roof Garden to watch and listen to a number of talented British artists. These artists will share poems and stories about the Black experience. Poets include Nigerian-British author Sarah Aluko, Young People’s Laureate Theresa Lola, writer and educator Roger Robinson, internationally acclaimed poet, playwright, performer and artist Inua Ellams and multidisciplinary artist Joladé Olusanya.
