The Autumn Term seems to be whizzing by and we hope you’ve had a wonderful start to the academic year.
To support Anti Bullying Week (Monday 10 - Friday 14 November) and World Kindness Day (Thursday 13 November) we have chosen two Taster Cards that will support the development of collaboration and observation skills in your learners, whilst also giving them the opportunity to reflect on a space that is special to them. The activities can be adapted for either Key stage one or two learners. For upper Keystage 2 we’ve included a link to a longer learning sequence Crafting Conversations.
Mirror Me (MLD Taster Card)
Mirror me is an activity that will encourage learners to cooperate with each other through the use of movement. Children will be able to explore what it feels like to be the leader and then, in contrast to be the follower.
My Special Place (RESET activity)
In this activity children are encouraged to question and reflect on which spaces are important to them and why. How do these spaces make them feel? This personal reflection is supported through drawing and partner talk.
Learning Sequence
For Upper KS2, Crafting Conversations is a sequence of 3 lessons giving pupils the opportunity to develop their conversation skills; listening and responding appropriately and develop their understanding that people can respond differently to the same situation.
If you are interested in more creative approaches to learning then our Sparking Creativity Pack which was launched earlier this term is for you. Packed full of ideas to develop the five creative habits of mind, these cards have activities that can be used across the curriculum.
If you’d like to find out more about our Teaching for Creativity programme, we are running a free online event on Monday 17 November at 4pm.
At this we’ll give you a quick introduction to the pedagogy that underpins these resources as well as introducing participants to more practical activities you can use in the classroom.
