This programme is developed by the London Legacy Development Corporation for people who are from Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets or Waltham Forest. This means that you lived in the boroughs whilst you were at school or college.
Formed in April 2012, the London Legacy Development Corporation’s purpose is to use the opportunity of the London 2012 Games to develop a dynamic new heart for east London, creating opportunities for local people in East London Host Boroughs, and driving innovation and growth in London and the UK.
STEP develops and platforms the talent of local people, who live and grew up in the boroughs. We're best placed to support people from east London, because of our connections to employers and support services here.
If you live in other London boroughs you may be eligible for other Create Jobs programmes, please see here.
Or, if you live outside of London but looking for opportunities in the creative or cultural sector, check out any of our partners; Creative Industries Federation, The Dots or Creative Lives in Progress' Opportunities Board.
Whilst our events and some opportunities are for people of any age, this programme is for people aged 18 to 30. This means you must be within this age bracket when the programme starts on 26 April 2021. If you're not within this age range but looking for opportunities in the creative sector, check out any of our partners; Creative Society, Creative Access, The Dots, Lecture in Progress' Opportunities Board.

You do not need any formal qualifications, we’re looking for transferrable skills and an enthusiasm in and curiosity for, creativity and culture. Other than that, we want to see your passion and interest in the industry as well as a creative can-do attitude and desire to learn.
We welcome applications from people who are currently underrepresented in the creative and cultural sectors which includes people who; are from working class or lower socio-economic backgrounds; D/deaf; disabled; neurodiverse; Black, Asian or from a minority ethnicity
All you need to apply is to be aged 18 to 30, a resident of Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Newham or Waltham Forest, and went to school or college whilst living in the boroughs.

The training programme is paid at London Living Wage and you will take part in training, work placements and mentoring between 30 to 40 hours a week (depending on which placement you choose) over the course of 12 months.
Should your application meet the requirements for the programme and be on the shortlist, we’ll invite you to a selection day. Our selection days are the second round in recruitment and just a chance for us to get to know you better. They’re run online via Zoom and will involve a group task with other applicants, where you’ll respond to a creative brief. This is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your collaboration, communication and creative skillsets. This will be followed by an individual interview between you and the placement partner you’ve chosen. You’ll also have chance to ask us any questions about the STEP programme, and understand more about careers in the creative and cultural sectors.
We ask you to select a first preference placement, please take your time to read through the placement options available through STEP here before making your application to the programme.
You will also have the option to tell us your second preference, if you have one.
You can apply for any STEP placement if you’ve taken part in a past Create Jobs’ programme.
It is really important to us that there are no barriers to anyone within the requirements taking part in our training programmes. Please let us know if you have any access requirements and/or would like to submit your application in a different format by contacting createjobs@anewdirection.org.uk
If there is any additional support we could offer to enable you to participate in either the selection process, or the programme, please include this in your application, or contact us before the deadline.
