What's your #Lifehack?

Have a listen to life hacks from our 2017 #Lifehacks event, in partnership with NME and University of Salford

13 February 2018

On the 23rd November 2017, we brought #Lifehacks back to life, for the second year running. Located at Metalworks in Angel, we were joined by an impressive line-up of creatives and a huge crowd of passionate young adults, all looking to get their foot in the door.

Our headlines speakers were Mercury Prize-nominated musician, Loyle Carner and Chelsea Women’s Footballer, Eniola Aluko, who opened the event and started the discussions.

We were also joined by Paula Akpan (‘I’m Tired’ Project), Paris Lees (trans rights activist), Josie Naughton (Help Refugees), Alex Manzi (BBC 1Xtra/Dreamer’s Disease), Ibrahim Kamara (GUAP), Niran Vinod (Instagram), Lauren Thomas (General Assembly), Kanya King MBE (MOBO Awards), Liv Little (gal-dem) and Jonathan Badyal (Universal Music UK). There were also workshops run by D&AD, Mission Starts Here and TRAID.

All of this culminating in a DJ set by BBZ and a gig by singer-songwriter Tom Grennan!

Hadley, Cass, Shamica and Scarlett, a team of young adults from our Broadcast Training programme, recorded some life hacks from the panellists and creative attendees. Have a listen here...

"Linking up with people and collaboration. Collaboration is key. I'm never too scared to take any risks" - Loyle Carner

"The hardest thing is not comparing yourself to everyone. People are going to have highs and people are going to have lows and not at the same time and it doesn't make what you're doing less impressive or any less important"- Paula Akpan

"The most important thing is cultivating meaningful relationships with people. Surround yourself with excellent people, that's how you continue to flourish"- Liv Little

"I think that we have these invisible barriers that we place on ourselves and we don't even go for it, we don't even buy the lottery ticket because we think we're never going to win. When actually, you have to put yourself out there and try. If you know that you're talented, believe in yourself and know your worth. Don't put barriers on yourself"- Paris Lees

"Work hard, be resilient and determined"- Kanya King MBE

"Be nice. One thing that stood out to me from talking to industry professionals, since I’ve started my journey, is that being a genuine person opens more doors for you"- Hadley Ogarro

The Create Jobs team are thrilled to have worked with such a great group of talented young adults, who have produced such a high standard of work. Keep an eye on our socials to see more of what our alumni get up to.
