Cultural Citizens partners

Please join us for a celebration of the London Pilot of The Cultural Citizens Programme. The scheme was announced by the Department for Culture Media and Sport, back in August, and was designed to give 600 young people across England in areas of low cultural engagement increased access to arts and culture.

Date:
 Thursday 13th July 2017
Time: 5.30 - 7.30pm
Venue: Studio 3 Arts, Boundary Road, Barking, IG11 7JR

In London, the programme has delivered high-quality arts opportunities for pupils across five secondary schools in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, led by A New Direction in partnership with the Barking and Dagenham Cultural Education Partnership, and delivered locally by Studio 3 Arts and Creative Barking and Dagenham.

The event will celebrate the key moments of the London pilot programme and its impact on young people. It will include a private view of photography and documentation by young people participating in the programme of their journeys across London, an overview of key findings from the national evaluation, a screening of a film and an opportunity to network over drinks.

Please RSVP by Monday 10th July

We look forward to seeing you.

More about the programme

The Cultural Citizens Programme was one of the key proposals from the Culture White Paper and aimed to target areas where there was low cultural engagement. The pilots have explored how arts and cultural organisations can provide young people with cultural experiences and increase local engagement with the arts. Young people have been offered a range of cultural activities, such as free visits to local plays, behind the scenes access to museums and galleries, and exclusive trips to world class venues.

All the work has been accredited through the Arts Award so that young people finish the programme with a qualification to help them progress to higher education or work.
