Digit Music has developed a unique and accessible instrument that students have been using to make their own music. Cmpsr uses a joystick and buttons to produce a range of instrument sounds and rhythms, and Digit uses a simple arrow notation system instead of the traditional stave so everyone can follow and play the evolving compositions.

Jess uses a powerchair and so was able to inspire our students to see what was possible for them with the tech provided by Digit. She even managed a live performance which was fantastic for all to see!"

    The workshop involved students using a joystick to be able to make music. Each direction of the joystick played a different note in one instrument. This meant students were able to access instrument sounds that would usually be difficult. They felt empowered and confident enough to use the Cmpsr joysticks to be able to make their own music sounds using different pitches. They were conducted by one of the workshop coaches to create an ensemble piece. The students loved that they were able to identify their own sounds within the group piece, and in fact were so excited that they shared the composed piece in assembly the next day with the school community.

    The staff were really excited to see our students so engaged, inspired and confident in what they were doing. The students were so engaged that they couldn't wait to return to the workshop after lunch (and it was a sunny day for playtime!).

    We are really hoping to be able to develop this further with our students by purchasing some of the Cmpsr joysticks, and trying it with some of our younger students too.
