Croydon Rising

Croydon Rising is a reactive programme that will respond to the themes from our past three years of information gathering about how to improve the quality of cultural learning; to include impact measurement, schools programmes and support with young people’s progression routes.

Croydon Rising has been formed at a time when Croydon has gathered much evidence of what needs to be done to enhance the cultural learning offer and address the barriers that challenge it. Additionally, we have the findings from our recent Youth Congress and a newly appointed Young Mayor who is propelling youth decision-making forward alongside the Croydon Youth Arts Collective – a youth decision-making board for the youth arts. Croydon Rising aims to address:

  • Making activity affordable – by levering additional funding into the borough
  • Location of provision and feeling safe to make this journey – by ensuring localised offers through activity such as the Jam Bus, a mobile creative site
  • Evidencing impact in schools – by identifying and working with underserved schools to support their engagement in Artsmark
  • Supporting young people’s progression routes – by creating a strategy to link delivery partners, schools and youth providers to offer structured support in employment and pathways
  • Youth ownership of opportunity – through the continuation of the Croydon Youth Arts Collective’s Takeover event amongst other youth-led platforms
  • Linking schools and artists – by delivering regular large-scale Cultural Education Partnership gatherings and through the Learning Through the Arts programme, that will promote cross-curricular learning through creative practice
