Flipside: Application Guide

29 June 2021

Once you’ve been referred by your Work Coach you’ll be given the link to fill out an application form. This form has a few sections to it so make sure you set aside some time to think about your answers before you apply. We’ll want to hear about why you want to take part in the programme and some evidence of your passion for all things digital. You’ll have the option to upload an audio or video response for each question (max 2 minutes per response.)

Application questions:

Q1. Why do you want to be part of the Flipside programme? (max. 200 words)

This question is looking for your understanding of the opportunity/role. Your answer could include what you hope to gain from this opportunity, what skills you have, and what you’d like to build on, you might want to highlight which aspects of the programme you would like to access most and why?

Q2. Why do you want to work for this organisation? (max. 200 words)

This is an opportunity to show that you have researched the organisation you’ve picked as your first choice and why you’d like to work for them. Some advice would be to find their website, highlight aspects of their recent work that interests you, and tell us why.

Q3. What excites you about the digital sector? (max. 200 words)

We're looking for individuals with a passion for the digital sector and a drive to pursue a career in digital design. Tell us about your motivation to immerse yourself in this sector and why it excites you. Maybe there's a particular individual or organisation in the sector you admire or an app or website you really love. Or do you have an idea for a digital product you want to make a reality? If you wish to upload your answer as an audio or video file please write audio/video in this text box, and upload your file below.

We’ll also ask you to tell us about any relevant experience you have that makes you a good fit for this programme, including unpaid and projects done in your own time.

This programme is not looking for people with lots of paid experience in digital product design, but people who have shown an interest in training or learning about the digital sector and who are at the right level for a training programme.

We are not looking for a specific set of qualifications, rather you will demonstrate creative problem-solving skills, be curious and love to learn, and have the drive and commitment to gain a career in digital design.

You will have an interest and basic knowledge of design software (InVision) editing tools (Adobe), and familiarity with design techniques (prototyping). You will have strong attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, project manage including time management and scheduling, the ability to work effectively within teams, and hold a creative mindset.

There will also be an option for you to upload any relevant work you would like us to see – this is not a compulsory part of the application, but if you have any relevant digital design or problem-solving work we would love to see it.

For more information or if you have any questions, email createjobs@anewdirection.org.uk or come along to one of our info sessions.
