Engagement and the Art of Social Change
23 April 2015 at Coin Street Neighbourhood Centre

In this session, the think tank Demos presented latest research into attitudes towards politics among young people, and ran an interactive session with teachers. Voter turnout among young people is declining, with many disengaged from the system. Instead, they are turning to social media and social action campaigns to have a positive impact in their communities. The session looked at how cultural engagement could prove to provide an answer. More needs to be done to teach all young people the basics about politics, the importance of compromise and making difficult decisions, and an appreciation of a diversity of views.

This type of education begins at primary school and continues through secondary school. Demos presented the latest research into youth attitudes to politics, and the skills and attitudes needed to be good citizens. The interactive session focused on teachers working in groups to design programmes or lesson plans that could help to embed these skills and attitudes into their pupils' learning.

Is Exploration at the Heart of all Creativity?
30 June 2015 at Museum of London

Is a desire to explore and a curiosity to find out more at the heart of the creative impulse? Does the spirit of exploration help us to see the world in different ways? During this session we had the opportunity to try a variety of fun, creative tools linked to exploration in the broadest sense which will take you on a journey around the space we are in as well as through a variety of different art-forms and subjects. Exploration offers a great entry point into a variety of subjects ranging from science and drama to art, music and dance taking in history and geography along the way. This was a cross curricular session suitable for all school types and phases.
