Recovery Curriculum CPD Twilight: Space (design focus) - 19 October 2020
Recovery Curriculum CPD sessions
This series of free CPD sessions have a Recovery Curriculum focus and will support you to use the creative arts to address the consequences of the pandemic on your students’ lives and learning. Based on the work of Barry Carpenter, Professor of Mental Health at Oxford Brookes, the sessions will focus on each of the five levers from the proposed curriculum: relationships, community, transparent curriculum, metacognition and space.
Delivered by the artists and creative practitioners who have developed activities for our new Recovery Curriculum Resource, each session will:
- Offer guidance on putting the Recovery Curriculum principles into practice
- Enable you to discuss with the artist and other educators how to adapt the activities to suit your Key Stage and cohort, make them more guided, or more student-led
- Explore the ways the arts can support students’ wellbeing and readjustment to school life
- Provide an opportunity to network and share advice with colleagues
This session will focus on Lever 5 - Space
Join designer Seyi Adelekun as she introduces a reflective design activity which encourages pupils to explore the spaces that are important to them, how they make them feel, and how they can adapt their environment to boost their emotional wellbeing.
Focusing on spaces in the home, school, and in the rest of the world, this activity will allow pupils to find common interests and values among their peers by reflecting on the spaces which influence their lives and bring them joy. The activity aims to engage and inspire pupils to think creatively about how they influence their environments, and how their environments can influence them.
The activities explored in this CPD are suitable for KS2 and KS3, however the session will also provide tips in how to adapt them further and we encourage teachers who work with all age ranges to attend.
The activities can be found in our free online Reset resource, under Lever 5.
These free CPD sessions are delivered as part of Reset – our programme of support in response to the pandemic. For more information on the full programme go to www.anewdirection.org.uk/reset
