Place Strategy

A New Direction has been involved with a number of ‘place-based’ initiatives in recent years. Our Place Strategy aims to share some of our thinking and learning in this space, and priorities from here

When we talk about ‘place’ we mean focussing our work on specific localities, which allows us to start from young people’s lived experience in an area and consider the multiple factors that might affect their capacity to be creative.

A New Direction has been involved with a number of ‘place-based’ initiatives over recent years, including our work with Creative People and Places, London’s Cultural Education Partnerships, and through programmes in which we have invested through our London Cultural Education Challenge.

In this strategy we’ve aimed to share some of our thinking and learning in this space; about our context in London – through data drawn from a range of sources - and ideas for approaches to this work. This is an evolving document, and over the next few months we hope to have conversations with partners in order to further develop and consolidate this strategy and plan next steps.
